Contribution
Are 15-year old students prepared for life in information (ICT rich) society? This is one of the questions of interest in OECD PISA framework.
As it is known from theoretic framwork of OECD PISA ICT could play important role both in student achievement in different subject area and also in their general preparedness for life. Therefore, student questionnaires of all OECD PISA cycles contain a set of ICT questions regarding some general and specific aspects of ICT use at school and at home. Till now the main attention is paid to primary data analysis that allows to make conclusions about possible impact of ICT use on student achievement.
Taking into account that different research data (for example, aspects of ICT use at home and at school, etc.) obtained in OECD PISA have a hierarchical structure, it is possible that the individual subjects of study may be classified or arranged in groups which themselves have qualities that influence the study. Application of HLM method to OECD PISA data about different aspects of student and school level indices and student achievement is aimed to shed light on possible influence of factors on students’ achievement in different subject area.
Method
Hierarchic Linear Modeling (HLM) tool will be the main data processing instrument applied to the OECD PISA student questionnaire data regarding ICT use.
Expected Outcomes
Taking into account hierarchical structure of data obtained in OECD PISA, it is possible to find out possible influence of different factors regarding ICT use in instruction and outside school on students' achievement in different subject area.
