Contribution
The European Union commissioned this study of the programmes currently being implemented in European educational settings to promote mental health and prevent mental ill-health in children and adolescents. It is part of a wider study which also looks at mental health promotion intervention more broadly including at home with families and infants, in the workplace and among older people. Systematic approaches are being used to identify programmes across Europe with a particular emphasis on evidence-based programmes emerging from systematic literature review processes. Programmes are described and coded with a view to articulating best practices. This will complement the outcomes of previous systematic literature searches conducted by European Network of Health Promoting Schools, Intercamhs and IMPHA network of Prevention and Promotion in Mental Health, by engaging with stakeholders from European partner countries and examining content, ethos, dimensions and outcomes of programmes. The process raises issues of the extent to which research can be synthesised when the contexts, methods and findings are characterised by heterogeneity.
