Paper Session
Contribution
This paper will report on the Informational system created to facilitate teacher development and pupils learning in school. The aim of the paper is two fold. Firstly, it specifically reports on the methodology and the research instruments developed and used during a research work carried out in two secondary schools in Moscow in the period from 2007-2009. The aim of the research was to map the informational structure of the brain of a pupil. As a result of the research work a three-dimensional model of the macrostructure of the active brain of a student according to its functions has been identified. Testing of each of the parts and estimation of their work was carried out with the help of specially developed questionnaires, which will be discussed by the paper. On the basis of such testing, the abilities and learning preferences of individual students were identified. It is recognised that pupils’ development in school should be in harmony with their abilities and characteristics. One of the benefits of using such approach is grouping and streaming of pupils according their abilities. Secondly, the paper will highlight how ICT can be utilised to carry out the testing, so that the result can be widely available to pupils, teachers and parents. The paper reports on the methods, tools, procedures and programm design features which make the informational system useful and easy to use by both teachers and students. During the period of the research work in using developed informational system, the following benefits of the utilisation of ICT in carrying out the tests were observed: i) mapping out the three-dimensional structure of the active brain of a pupil; ii) possibility to make prognosis for further development by means of assignment of appropriate creative work specifically suitable for each pupil; iii) recommendation to teachers and parents on the pupils’ abilities and characteristics so that pupils can adapt quicker and better to changing settings of the classroom so to facilitate all-round development. The paper also highlights what opportunities are there for teachers’ life-long professional development in utilisation of ICT in their teaching. The paper concludes that one of the main aims of the exploitation of ICT in schools is to assist students and teachers in teaching and learning so their development is directed in the best way possible.
