Session Information
14 SES 11, The Participation of the Community in Educational Research
Symposium
Contribution
The critical communicative methodology includes the voices of the people being researched throughout the whole research process. This paper will describe how the vulnerable groups studied in various research projects (Roma people, migrants, people with disabilities, etc) participate in this kind of research. The way in which dialogue is established between researchers and vulnerable groups will be described. The creation of advisory councils containing groups which are truly vulnerable will be demonstrated. These advisory councils will assess the whole project process in order to ensure what the project will contribute in terms of overcoming social inequality. In other research projects experts express the voice of vulnerable groups themselves or sometimes it is not researchers but people who are not real representatives of vulnerable groups who take on the voice of those who are truly vulnerable. Through the use of the critical communicative methodology the participation of vulnerable groups is ensured, as well as the inclusion of their voices. Due to that, this type of research has a greater social impact and is of greater scientific quality.
