Contribution
The cultural and artistic dimension is essential to the person. Quality of life cannot be improved, nor there true development, without cultural development. Promoting people’s integrated development through the arts is essential. As a responsibility and a product of the entire community, art must be felt and enjoyed by all, as it is part of the culture. It is a very broad and diversified in its scope, and simultaneously expresses emotions, conceptions of the world around us and representations of natural and social reality (Viveiros, 2007; Sousa, 2009).
Sociocultural animation is a form of intervention that uses a wide range of practices, using an active methodology, designed to get people to participate in their own development and transformation, at both a personal and social level. Ander-Egg (1999) classifies these activities into four categories: training, dissemination, artistic and recreational.
Artistic activities in animation are organized so that the individual can discover himself as the subject who creates and re-invents his own reality, designing a new scenario for his cultural, social and community life. The importance of art in entertainment is owed to its unique particularity as a means of interpreting the world.
Nowadays the arts are being given increasing importance and artistic animation is spoken as a need in the 21st century to develop creativity and cultural awareness.
With this framework in mind, we formulated the following question:
"Given the dynamics of art and culture in the municipality of Nelas, what is the need felt by young students towards implementing artistic activities, for their cultural and artistic development?”
What we want to know above all what the existing reality is, in terms of cultural and artistic practices in the municipality of Nelas and what needs the municipality’s young students feel with regards to what the town offers them. In other words, to find out to what extent it is necessary to implement a plan of activities that promotes the cultural and artistic development of the community´s young students, taking into account what existing activities already offer.
