As the Indian writer Arundhati Roy has recently noted “Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.” The pandemic has helped us understand how much education is a precious, and vulnerable, part of our life. Learning about the experience of refugees and the role that education can play in their lives allows us to better understand how the vulnerability is also an opportunity to develop a different approach to education, as a chance to 'love the world enough to take responsibility for it'...

Tuesday 7 September, 11:00 - 12:30

These sessions will highlight the particularities of the Swiss education system by exploring its characteristics and ability to adapt to evolutions within society with which it is confronted (e.g., digital teaching, vocational curricula, internationalisation, privatisation, the influence of the job market on educational content, inclusive learning, the connection between work and education).

Tuesday 7 September, 14:00 - 17:30

This round table will focus on the place and the role of educational research within the wider scope of social sciences and humanities, within funding agencies based in the European Research Area. This round table will be topical as well as pragmatic, addressing three main questions.

Wednesday 8 September, 11:00 – 12:30

Global Education policy, research and practice has developed steadily in European countries over the past 20 years. This session, building on data from the forthcoming State of Global Education in Europe (produced annually by GENE - Global Education Network Europe, based on the self-reporting of European national Ministries and Agencies) and informed by recent debates and cross-cutting policy issues identified by policymakers as key to future integration, will examine conceptual debates and foundations, outline the current and emerging policy environment for further integration of Global Education in European countries.
