Accessibility and Inclusion at ECER

EERA/ECER welcomes everyone, regardless of disability, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, neurodiversity, ethnicity or religion. We aim to provide an accessible and inclusive conference experience for all.

Because ECER takes place in a different city/country and at a different venue each year, the support available will change from year to year. You will find below specific information on the current ECER as well as more general information.

General information:
Please indicate in your registration for ECER which mobility issues you have so that we can check our list of session rooms and adjust the scheduling if necessary. If you would like to bring a person to the conference to support you (e.g. sign language interpreter, sighted guide) please contact us to organise a free entry for this person. If you have specific questions or requests which you did not submit when you registered for ECER, please contact us. dow(at)eera.eu.

Accessible Presentations

General Information and Tips on How to Make Your Presentation Accessible and Inclusive

As an association dedicated to promoting educational research, EERA aims to ensure that the presentations given during the annual ECER conference are fully accessible to everyone.  These Guidance Notes and PowerPoint Template for Preparing Accessible Presentations promote presentation practices that consider the varied abilities of the audience and aim to maximize participation for everyone.

Mobility

  • Accessibility to all the buildings is ensured by ramps, elevators and automatic doors.
  • New elevators have voice control and many elevators also have braille buttons.
  • Accessible toilets are available and clearly marked. They are located near the info desk of each campus building.
  • Renting of wheelchairs is possible. The use of scooters indoors is prohibited for safety reasons.
  • Feel free to stand or walk when presenting or listening as sitting for an extended period of time is difficult for many people.

Hearing

  • All conference rooms are equipped with handheld and/or fixed microphones.
  • There are handheld microphones in every room that requires them.
  • A number of the rooms have hearing loops.
  • Please ensure that all presenters and speakers use the microphone. If questions are asked without a microphone, please make sure the question is repeated into the microphone.

    Sight

    • There is a tactile strip in the Main building that visually impaired people can follow with their white stick and helps them to navigate through the building.
    • Tactile signage: Many elevators have braille buttons.
    • If you would like to bring a sighted guide with you to the conference, please contact us to organise a free entry for this person. dow(at)eera.eu

    Quiet Room

    • There is a resting room (furnished with a bed and an armchair) in the Main building right next to the building’s info desk.
    • Participants are welcome to enjoy the quiet in the Ecumenical chapel in the Pinni B building.
    • Please note, these are not working spaces but places to enjoy a break from the busyness of conference life. Please remember to take a break from your devices.

    LGBTQIA+

    •  EERA/ECER welcomes everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, neurodiversity, disability, ethnicity or religion. We aim to provide a harassment-free conference experience for all. If you experience difficult/unpleasant situations, have any questions or need assistance, please either come to the EERA Desk during ECER or contact us at dow(at)eera.eu.

    • Gender-neutral toilets: There are several gender-neutral toilets in the A, B and C parts of the Main building and one in the Virta building. The toilets are marked with male and female characters plus a special symbol that indicates gender neutrality.

    Dietary Restrictions/Preferences

There will be vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free options available at the Welcome Receptions and during the coffee breaks. If you have dietary restrictions/preferences, please indicate them when registering for ECER so that we can estimate the numbers needed for catering.
