City of Tampere – The Vibrant Heart of Finland
Surrounded by two large lakes that give the city its distinctive atmosphere of natural peace, Tampere (pop. 260,000) is a vibrant regional capital with an active cultural life and a versatile event scene. A big city by Finnish standards, Tampere still manages to feel like a small town. In the compact city centre, everything is within a convenient walking distance. For multiple years in a row, the Finns have voted Tampere as the favourite city in Finland.
The City of Tampere is an important supporter and partner in organizing the ECER 2026 conference.

Conference Venue Tampere University, City Centre Campus

Tampere University is one of the most multidisciplinary and the second biggest university in Finland. We bring together research and education in technology, health and society. Our community consists of about 23,200 students and around 4,200 staff members from more than 80 countries. The University of Tampere merged with Tampere University of Technology on 1 January 2019, creating the present Tampere University.
The ECER conference is organized by the Faculty of Education and Culture and especially the Unit of Education. The Unit of Education is a research and learning community investigating the state of education in society and reshaping education. We are training experts and change-makers with strong social and cultural awareness and an analytical mindset for the education sector at all levels of education from early childhood to adult education. Our learning community values multi-voicedness and encourages broad and critical thinking. The faculty’s key research themes - which are education in society, communities in education, and learning, pedagogy, and learning cultures - represent a broad range of educational research supported by EERA.
At Tampere University we have our own experienced Congress Office working with our Local organizing committee in organizing the ECER conference.
