At the March 2022 Council meeting EERA committed itself to supporting educational research in Ukraine both practically and morally. As a result of this meeting a decision was made to provide a range of supports for Ukrainian educational researchers. This week marks an important milestone as the first round of research funding for Ukrainian researchers, supported by EERA, has been allocated. Totalling 50,000 euro, the fund will be used to support small scale research projects within Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora as well as providing capacity building supports for researchers.

At the recent EERA Council meeting in Berlin, Prof Marit Honerød Hoveid was elected as incoming EERA President and will take on this role from September 2023 for a period of four years. Prof Honerød Hoveid is Professor of Pedagogy, PhD, at Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Department of Education and Lifelong Learning and has held numerous academic roles in Norwegian education in the course of a long and varied career. She has been deeply involved in the work of EERA for a number of decades.

The Institute of Education at Dublin City University is looking to host an experienced researcher via funding through Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships. In order to secure funding, the experienced researcher must develop a proposal with the host for the September 15 2021 deadline.

In the last decade, there has been strong research development in the field of Global Education (GE). This is the third edition of the Digest and for the first time it is a multilingual edition gathering publications in six languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. Bringing together over 1100 publications, the DIGEST, through structured and comparative themes and typologies, facilitates access to research and policy learning across languages and borders.

PRESS CONFERENCE: impact of COVID-19 and budget cuts on the next generation of EU researchers. In recent days the Initiative for Science in Europe (ISE) has written an open letter to the European Institutions about our collective response to the Covid-19 pandemic. As an active member of ISE, EERA is happy to support this initiative and will be calling its member Associations to take part in the campaign.

The European Alliance for the Social Sciences and the Humanities EASSH has joined as a partner in the World Pandemic Research Network (WPRN). This network is committed to assessing societal and human impact of Covid 19. EERA has been invited to take part in this initiative.

Following extensive discussions during the last weeks, EERA and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) have agreed to cancel ECER 2020 in Glasgow. Our primary consideration when making this decision was the health and wellbeing of conference participants and we feel collectively that this is the only possible position to adopt.

Sara Franch’s paper “Global Citizenship Education: a new ‘moral pedagogy’ for the 21st century?” focuses on the emergence of Global Citizenship Education (GCE) in the educational discourse of a province in northern Italy and outlines how policy-makers and teachers construct GCE as a pedagogical framework for schooling in the 21st century.

On 13 Mai 2019, the European Commission launched a call for experts to join future Mission Boards, which will advise the Commission on the new concept of Missions in Horizon Europe, the next EU research and innovation programme.

In this paper, the Alliance recommends that to best capture the impact of research, researchers must be enabled to use a diversity of methods, data sources and forms of explaining the impact of their projects. EASSH invites the European Commission to capture impact not project by project, but on the wider terrain of the overall calls’ aims.

Within European Educational Research Association (EERA), Emerging researchers' interests are represented by the Emerging Researchers' Group (ERG). Now it is time to choose the next Link Convenor of the ERG. The person chosen will shadow the current Link Convenor as of ECER 2019 and takes over after the conference in Glasgow in 2020.

EERA notes with great sadness the recent passing of our friend and colleague Meinert A. Meyer.

EERA would like to congratulate the Luxemboug Educational Research Association (LuxERA) on their Inaugural LuxERA Conference 2018 which will take place 7 - 9 November at the University of Luxembourg Campus Belval.

In June, EASSH has been invited to attend the European Open Science Summit. The aim of the event is to reflect on the progress of our current achievements and ongoing efforts, and to consult with the key stakeholders, on operational and strategic aspects of the EOSC before the implementation phase starts.

EERA is pleased to announce that W. Bos, I. Grosvenor, F. Simon, S. Gento, J. van der Akker and J. L. Lasonen were awarded an Honorary Network Membership by the EERA Council at the Council.

"With the four new members EERA accepts active research communities as they have all not only shown research activities but have also arranged conferences and meetings", says Theo Wubbels, president of EERA.

Since 2010 EERA has financially supported various projects (e.g. seminars & meetings) and season schools for emerging researchers, all organised by EERA networks. Now EERA is again inviting project proposals. Submissions are to be handed in to EERA office by 1 November 2018.

Over 500 students from 70 countries paricipated in the 8 editions of the EERA summer school in educational research. EERA is now looking for a partner to host the 2020 and 2021 edition of the school. Would you and your institution be willing to join us in this endeavour?
