At the recent EERA Council meeting in Berlin, Prof. Dr Petra Grell was elected as incoming EERA President. She will take on this role from September 2027 for a period of four years.
Prof. Dr Grell is Vice President for Academic Careers and Diversity at Technische Universität Darmstadt and Professor for Education at Technische Universität Darmstadt. She has been actively involved in EERA for many years in her roles as Link Convenor, Networks’ Representative on Council and Senior Fellow for the Emerging Researchers’ Group:
- 2014 – 2019 - Link Convenor Network 06 Open Learning: Media, Environments and Cultures
- 2019 – 2023 - Networks’ Representative on Council
- 2023 – present – ERG Senior Fellow
Council Members are responsible for nominating colleagues for positions on the Executive Board and have based their nomination on Petra Grell being a widely recognised figure in international educational research, known for the depth and breadth of her scholarship in media education, educational theory and studies of social transformation. Her work consistently engages with key contemporary challenges such as participation, equity, digitalisation and democratic education, equipping her with a particularly strong perspective from which to represent EERA in complex contexts. They also valued Prof Grell’s long-standing commitment to academic leadership, mentoring and capacity building, particularly in relation to early career and emerging researchers.
Speaking after Prof. Dr Grell’s election, EERA’s President, Marit Honerød Hoveid said:
“I am delighted to welcome Prof. Dr Grell as the next President of EERA. Having worked and collaborated with Petra at EERA over the years, it is with full confidence that I will hand over the EERA Presidency to her capable hands when my term ends in 2027. I am looking forward to her joining the Executive Board in her role as President-elect in August of this year and I am sure that EERA will continue to grow and flourish under her guidance and leadership.”
