Contribution
Arts informed inquiry, although often contested as a research methodology has been embraced by a growing number of educational researchers to answer important professional questions about teacher professional development. While not relevant for all research questions, it can provide a range of tools to examine issues around teacher learning at every stage of the preservice-inservice continuum from multiple perspectives. Arts-based inquiry is art pursued for inquiry's sake and not necessarily for art's own sake. Such approaches have the potential to create new epiphanies (Diamond and Mullen, 1999) for teacher educators in ways that traditional research cannot. This teacher professional learning can, in turn, enhance student learning outcomes. This presentation will briefly examine several arts informed research projects that have focused on teacher professional development.
