The Faculty of Education at Plymouth University is migrating from its present campus at Exmouth some 55 miles to Plymouth. With a new Dean the Faculty is reconceptualising its focus, role and identity as a centre for educational scholarship, research and development. The focus is on working in close, genuine partnership with stakeholders and providers: schools/colleges; Local Authorities; Educational Agencies, Support Services; FE Colleges and other HEIs as well as parents and carers. This requires a model of engagement and involvement which puts The University into the School and Community from an active, engaged involvement of the HEI and its staff with the communities of practice it supports and which provides it with its raison d’etre and cutting edge research sites that are situated. Crucial is the close working relationship between teachers, HEI pedagogic and academic experts, HEI students, Local Authority staff and other stakeholders and providers – plus pupils, parents and carers.
