The paper describes topic, objective, purpose, research question, conceptual framework of SITES20006 in Italy. In fulfilling the SITES project national report, specific of italian context, national characteristics have been mainly considered, most of them dependent on education and social policy orientation in regard to ICT. These policies promote and determine educational and social environments where students acquire and develop ICT skills. Data collected in Italy through the international IEA survey have been analyzed and explained, considering the national context of ICT policies and practices in education.
