Contribution
Subscribing to presuppositions of the Sociology of Childhood which, between others, advocates the consideration of children as an unity of observation - epistemological autonomy - and as competent reporters of their lives - children as social actors - we attempt to, based on an ethnography carried out during a school year with three to six year old children in a pre-school in rural surroundings, be accountable to the perplexities lived (by the researcher) when confronted with their agency At the core of ethnographic research are social relations and interactions between adults-children and children-children, where powers, rationalities and subjectivities are permanently gauged and (re)construct reflexively shared meanings about what "are they doing there" and after all "who is who". We try to reveal the multiplicity of roles that coexist in the researcher's performance and the interpretations, strategic uses, appropriations that children conduct as well as their interpretative reproductions in peer culture.
