We are delighted to announce that from 17 - 18 May, the University of Galway will be hosting the EERA Network 13 Philosophy of Education Season School in partnership with the University of Galway School of Education. The event will take place on the university campus in Galway city. The University of Galway is located on the outskirts of Galway city Centre and is listed as one of the 30 most beautiful universities in Europe: https://www.universityofgalway.ie
Whilst the Season School does not have a specific theme/topic as such, it is a requirement that applicants be engaged in philosophically oriented research in education. The Season School is open to 20 PhD students enrolled at European universities. Our funding covers accommodation for 2 nights, lunch for 2 days, refreshments and a network evening meal. Whilst we are not able to cover most travel expenses, we will be able to make a small contribution to travel costs for students based in low GDP countries. The amount of reimbursement in this regard will depend on numbers. Three places are reserved for students based in low GDP countries.
Tutors: Elisabet Langmann, Stefano Oliviero, Marie Hållender, Joris Vlieghe, Bianca Thoilliez, Piotr Zamojski, and Ian Munday
The programme accomodates presentations by PhD students, seminars with experienced researchers on student’s submitted propositions, reading (text discussion) sessions, a film screening and discussion session. Those participating in the Season School will be eligible to receive a certificate of attendance after the event takes place.
Two formats of submissions are welcome:
- Draft paper: 3500-4500 words (plus references)
- Abstract: 600 words (plus references)
In each case we are looking for a clear, sound, well designed philosophical argument that relates to topics, issues, discussions currently featuring in the field of philosophy of education. All submissions will be reviewed by the conveners of ECER Network 13 ’Philosophy of education’. The design of the program will depend on the scope and the format of the accepted submissions. We also ask applicants to enclose the statement of interest form so that the organisers may better prepare the programme (please use this form).
Contact person: Please send all submissions and queries to Dr Ian Munday at nw13-ss-2025(at)eera.eu
The decision of the organisers about accepted/rejected submissions will be communicated no later than 21 March 2025.
Should your application be accepted, please confirm attendance by 31 March. If we do not hear from you by 31 March then we will contact applicants on the waiting list.
Proof of attendance: The travel support for students based in low GDP countries is given after proof of attendance at the Season School. For this reason, the recipients will receive a form, which must be filled out, signed and given to the organiser (Dr Ian Munday) during the event.
Season School Mission
The aim of the ‘European Educational Research Association’ (EERA) is to further high quality educational research for the benefit of education and society. High quality research not only acknowledges its own context but also recognises wider, transnational contexts with their social, cultural and political similarities and differences. To accomplish this, engagement and support for the next generation of European researchers is essential. EERA season schools bring together early career researchers and PhD students from a number of nations to share and discuss their research and experiences with experts within their own field of research, in order to further the professional development of emerging researchers.
