Contribution
This paper will draw on a study of publication records to consider the ways in which research associations in different contexts help to create a particular version of educational research, with explicit and implicit practices that are recognized as defining features of the national landscape of educational research. the paper looks at some of the developments of recent years that have sought to promote a European research Area, including the acceptance of English language publishing, of the influence of citation indices, and the influence of particular problems and projects, as well as methodologies, in promoting greater conformity in research publications and research association practices. Some of the issues and concerns that are created by these forces, and the extent to which they suppress or conceal differences in traditions and practices in research in different national associations will be debated in the paper
