Contribution
This paper will look at the place of educational research within the EU programme of research in the social sciences. Educational research is seen as an essential complement to research in other domains of social policy. EU supported research in education is expected to add knowledge and value to the braoder social science agenda and help resolve social, political and economic questions well beyond those experienced within the confines of formal education and training systems. The paper will look at the kinds of research that has been supported since 1995, and the evolution of the programmes's priorities and themes. It will consider ongoing research activities and discuss some of the inherent difficulties in the 'European dimension' in research, and consider the outlook for the near future.
