Previous empirical study on school achievement in Finland demonstrates an increasing variation between different parts of Finland and between classes inside the schools. The decrease on reading comprehension and mathematics is obvious concerning the past decade (Hautamäki et al. 2013). In the latest PISA studies the difference between schools has been increasing (Kupari et al. 2013). In the symposium findings on a case study consisting of a Finnish speaking low performing school in Finland are reported. With the low performing school we mean a school that achieves results statistically lower than could be expected, given the socio-cultural composition of the school’s student population. The case study aims at providing a rich empirical description of how the principal’s leadership in such a school may be experienced by the principal, teachers, and students of the school.
