Central sources: Reports of the national councils of research in the humanities (especially Norway and Denmark since 1945) Reports of leading institutions of research and higher education (especially in the United States since the Harvard Report) Reports of organisations of higher education (especially in Germany and the United States since 1945) Central debaters on criteria’s of knowledge relevance (very selectively chosen) Theoretical references: The development of the idea of historically changing criteria’s of knowledge entails a critical evaluation of the ideas of Jean-François Lyotard’s post-modern account of these changes as well as some discussions on more recent emancipatory and system-functionalistic views of knowledge (Pierre Bourdieu and Niklas Luhmann).
