Session Information
12 SES 08 A, BarCamp Open Science
Workshop
Contribution
“Open Science” has become an umbrella term for several recent developments ranging from Open Access publications to Open Research Data, Open Metrics, and Open Educational Resources and Practices. Open Science calls for the transparency of science and its processes, for the accessibility of scientific outcomes and resources, and for the traceability of research and its production of findings. Following the recent series of joint EERA activities on Openness in Educational Research, Network 12 created a respective special call. This Open Workshop serves as a gateway for discussing issues on Open Science in education from a European decentralized perspective.
Open Science in educational research offers the potential to strengthen its effects on education and on society at large by making its findings more visible and traceable.
At ECER 2021, we want to adapt Open Science for educational research by discussing capacities and added values of Open Research Practices as well as boundaries, by adopting decentralised perspectives on this phenomenon. Thereby, we want to highlight two perspectives:
1) broadening the view from the predominant singular STEM rationale of Science to diverse epistemologies in educational sciences through a critical engagement. Thereby we want to discuss and exemplify concrete scenarios to demonstrate the added values in connecting Open Data with Open Access, the demand for preprints in educational sciences, Open Metrics, Open Business Models for Educational Resources etc.
2) empowering decentralised European epistemological perspectives on Open Science in education.
Method
What are your ideas and questions about Open Science in Education? We kindly invite you to share your ideas at the etherpad under https://hackmd.io/ddcOQ7AmRpSE6WdY4vtuwg which will serve as a basis for the session program. In this Open Workshop we will follow a BarCamp approach. During the session several groups will be created to discuss the proposed topics, and the shared ideas will be presented later in the forum.
Expected Outcomes
This Open Workshop is part of the concerted action of a special call on Open Science in Education in the series of recent joint EERA activities on Openness in Educational Research, which is an ongoing strategic discussion for our network. We aim to unfold aspects of Open Science and their implications and added values for Educational Research in a first step and to envision - in a second step - a common European perspective. As the framework and measures of the European education sector are country specific, the involvement of different and especially decentralised European perspectives serves to identify common grounds and diversities regarding a European Open Research landscape. Thereby, we encourage to participate and try to connect research, infrastructure, and practice to create our shared space of Openness in Educational Sciences.
