The complexity and dynamic context where the process of teaching and learning take place, includes the massive introduction of ICT in youth’s live. Their relation with ICT gets special strength as many researches had shown (Tedesco 1995, Don Ihde 2002, Sancho 1996). My purpose is to explore how the use of ICT is changing youth’s embodiment, and which are the educational repercussions of these shifts. I try to tackle some questions related: Is the introduction of ICT developing new ways of representing the body, and new ways of practicing the body? What can we learn from these new changes? Which are the repercussions to the educational system? How to reduce the distance between, the new social practices, expectations and youth location’s, and the schools? Finally how could educational research contribute to reduce the distance among Institutional education and young representations and practices?

On this paper I expose my research as a doctoral student in the Research ESBRINA “Subjectivity and Contemporary Educational Contexts“ situated in the University of Barcelona. This research belongs to a National Research Project 2007-2010 (SEJ2007-67562) called “Policy and Practice regarding ICT in Education: Implication for educational Innovation and Improvement” in which I collaborate as a research assistant.

Method

The complexity and social nature of the research problem, situates my approach in a socio-constructionist and narrative paradigm (Guba, y Lincoln 1994). From this perspective we consider the whole live interpretative, and shaped by significant social practices. Following these positions my research develops a methodological approach close to the Ethnography (Hammersley 1995) and Narrative Inquiry (Connelly and Clandini 1995). I would discuss my first conclusions after the ethnography in two Secondary Schools during one year, including participant observation, group discussion, interviews to teachers, student and families.

Expected Outcomes

This paper aims to contribute to understand youth’s live, new representations and new practices developed around their embodiment process, in order to obtain knowledge from their own complex identity and way of being in and out of secondary schools. I try to explore the following issues: -The lived experience of youth body according with their own times and places. -The changes mediated by ICT on the body habits and practices of the youth people. -The body practices mediated by ICT of the youth people in and out of school, and the meaning of those activities. -The body representations of youth and the influence of ICT in this representations. -The relation between these changes and secondary education. The final aim of this paper is to share concerns and reflections that were generated during my experience as a junior researcher and doctorate student.
