Inquiries through questionnaires put to evidence the basic role of the teacher concerning the image of science perceived by students and their choice in undertaking scientific studies and careers. In fact the teaching method and style can approach or avert without remedy a student from science and block the possibility to understand the scientific phenomena and the complexity of the reality. In a world where more and more the science knowledge-based technology influences our daily life, basic scientific competences are needed to participate as responsible citizen to the life of the country and political decisions. We believe that science stimulating a critical thinking favors creativity, intuition, freedom and democracy and is a powerful motor for development.
So the main actions should be addressed to teachers’ training, especially convincing them that research should be an intrinsic resource for the educational professionalism. Such concept includes a wider idea than a simple set of know -how that accompanies the professionalisms in word, since it alludes to the dimension of the research as a real professional habit of everybody works in educational and formative field, or rather as ability to express the professional action with the competences and the tools of the research.
A cooperation has been set up involving schools and university; researchers and selected teachers worked together without any hierarchy.
In order to approach students to Physics (and other scientific subjects) in a modern way we proposed a new electronic device, attractive for young people because it can be interfaced with IPAD, Iphone and may use the Bluetooth technology, very common among teenagers.
The teachers explored its potential and flexibility and tested their ideas designing new scenarios in teaching Physics, Mathematics, ICT, Statistics and Chemistry.
