18 SES 01, Teachers Learning Sport Education: Lessons from Successful Models
Symposium
Contribution
This paper describes a Spanish professional development initiative that promotes the use of information and communication technologies, group, reflexive and active learning among the participants. During weekly meetings, teachers engage in one theoretical and one practical session focusing on a particular topic of Sport Education. The entire program extended over 20 hours. The theoretical components examine the main features of Sport Education, reflection tasks, viewing of sample lessons, and lesson critiques. The practical component involves the teachers taking part in a mini Sport Education, with reflection and critical analysis of constructive group session conducted for each of the teacher. Teachers are also concurrently planning a season for their school where there is a weekly meeting from the professional development team in the school setting. Results from feedback suggest that teachers develop significant self efficacy, but still rely on the on-site visits to confirm they are remaining true to the intent of the model and to resolve problems.
