Symposium
Contribution
In the project “Mediengarten” [Media Garden] 151 pre-school children have been interviewed by future kindergarten teachers about their view on media. The children painted pictures or created a collage about media and were interviewed while doing so. In the applied mixed method design the visual data have been interpreted with a sequential image analysis and the texts by content analysis. The results do not support the theory of media generations. It could be shown that pre-school children already have a media habitus which is shaped by their families mainly. Individual differences in the media habitus demonstrate the importance of teaching media literacy in the kindergarten. Methods to teach media literacy in the kindergarten were developed accordingly.
