06 SES 10, Free and Open Learning: From its Merits to Practices
Symposium
Contribution
The concept of Open Educational Resources (OER) is linked to the academic and educational value of sharing knowledge. Scholars shared knowledge and helpful teaching or learning materials with friends and colleagues. But paper-based objects were much more complicated to share than digital objects via internet based networks. And the practices of giving and receiving credits for these resources changed as well. There are some vivid debates about the “Cape Town Open Education Declaration” and about the question if OER should favor commercial use. (Downes 2011) The didactic and instructional questions of OER in the field of Higher Education, based on a growing amount of accessible academic perspectives and instructional material tend to be neglected. In this paper these implications for recent Higher Education are analyzed using the example of OER about research strategies and methods. Downes, S. (2011): Free Learning.
