28 SES 13, The Dissemination of Research Findings of the European Sociology of Education in a Globalized Academic World: the Role of the Journals
Symposium
Contribution
Scuola Democratica-Learning for Democracy is a thematic journal which embraces all the fields of education and training. Its nature is multidisciplinary although it is particularly attentive to social sciences viewpoints. SD attempts also to foster the dialogue between different theoretical and methodological approaches and between researchers and reflexive social actors. As to evaluation, we are in favor of a neither reductive nor static concept of quality. Thus we fear that the emergent totalitarianism of bibliometric techniques might impoverish human and social sciences, also on the epistemological ground. At the same time, we are afraid of the current tendencies in Italy to close evaluation, and consequently research, within rigid disciplinary boundaries, so nullifying the innovative potentialities of cross-disciplinary fertilization. Our idea of quality demands scientific accuracy and cognitive autonomy of academic research but also attention to its relevance for development of democracy both on political and socio-cultural sphere. In our opinion, a risk of current public debate on education is to remain entangled within sectorial technicalities, therefore we have centered the call for papers 2013-2014 on three broad-spectrum issues: education, work and economic growth; education, welfare and society models; education, equity and inequalities.
