At this year’s ECER delegates commented on the quality and originality of papers. They also offered praise for the clear and obvious links between papers in particular sessions. People felt that this provided the opportunity for exploring a variety of perspectives on a single topic and noted and that this helped to deepen debates.
We had a number of joint sessions this year including several with Network 29. Some delegates commented on the ways in which these sessions led to the sharing of of ideas and perspectives between networks.
Network 13 were fortunate to host an invited symposium featuring prominent figures based at the University of Glasgow, namely Nikki Hedge, Penny Enslin, Bob Davis and James Conroy. This was ably organised and facilitated by David Lewin (University of Strathclyde) and chaired by Gert Biesta (Universities of Edinburgh and Maynooth ). This event, alongside several other sessions, helped showcase the strength of philosophy of education in Glasgow and Scotland more generally.
This year's event benefitted from fresh topics (such as educational games and toys) and experimental formats - at one point attendees took part in an improvised drama session.
Lastly the network meal, organised and arranged by Alexis Gibbs, was a delightful occasion and people commented on the relaxed and convivial atmosphere that surely derived from both the venue and, more importantly, the company.
