ECER 2024 in Cyprus was a very significant event for the presentation of good quality research and to participate on fruitful debates about higher education. The total of 132 submissions within NW22 reveals a decrease when comparing with ECER 2023, which is a trend in line with the reduction in the number of submissions to the overall ECER 2024.
The majority of the submissions continue to be in paper format (113 in total). This year an interactive poster session was organised to enhance exchanges amongst the authors of the posters (6 posters were accepted for presentation) and the initiative was well appreciated, as participants expressed that the general poster session does not enable such vivid conversations.
The programme has been organised on the basis of ensuring diversity of countries and regions in each session as much as possible, as well as searching for thematic coherence in the set of papers that constitute a specific session. In 2024 the thematic axis that attracted a highest number of papers, resulting in more sessions, were: Teaching, Learning and Assessment; Academic Work and Professional Development; Inclusion and Diversity; which is a similar trend when compared to ECER 2023.
Given the high number of submissions within NW 22, all the conveners are grateful for the work done by the following reviewers: Ana Baptista; Ana Mouraz; David Rodríguez-Gómez; Diana Mesquita; Franziska Lessky; Kallia Katsampoxaki-Hodgetts; Karen Andreasen; Gihan Ismail; Giulio Marini; Gregor Shafer; Jani Ursin; Johanna Annala; Pauline Taylor-Guy; Simon Warren.
During ECER 2024, the network 22 meeting was attended by almost 20 participants and the dinner on Thursday night was also a well appreciated opportunity to meet and discuss with others in an informal context. Consequently, the NW22 mailing list has been expanded and reinforced as an useful tool for sharing information about publications, projects, conferences, etc., as well as to find partners to joint research activities.
Within NW22 a project is being developed with the support of EERA in 2024. The overall aim is to analyze symposium papers that have been presented at past ECER conferences in order to identify trends in European educational research about higher education issues. Namely, research topics, theoretical approaches, methodologies and reported results are being considered. The project is expected to enable a contribution by NW 22 to the celebration of EERA’s 30th anniversary and the undergoing work was discussed during ECER 2024 amongst the conveners that participated in this year’s conference.
A seminar online promoted by NW22 took place on November 20th 2023 to present and discuss the research work that resulted in a special issue with the title “An international exploration of post-PhD careers. Discussing the issues of employability and intersectorial mobility” organized by Christine Teelken, Karen Andreasen, Andrea Galimberti and Annette Rasmussen and recently published at Studies in Higher Education .
