Contribution

This study deals with the meanings pedagogic and school museums assume in Portuguese pedagogical thinking, establishing a connection to specific related situations that took place in Portugal, within the movements of the renovation of teaching. We also try to understand the current emergence of a deep interest in the school and its past, in educational patrimony and in the materiality of the school institution - the new educational museums, that gain new (and varied) meanings and embody a movement of social search of identity and memory on the school. We shall analyse texts written by pedagogues (Adolfo Coelho, Adolfo Lima), legislation, catalogues and testimonies of experiences. Key words are: memory; material objects; educational patrimony; museum; pedagogy.
