The paper outlines field experience issues with particular reference to the provision of quality feedback. The nature of feedback will be discussed, making clear that the purpose is the improvement of teaching and the greater engagement in the study of problems related to teaching. With questions and dialogue, meaningful feedback results in a change in epistemology on the part of the students. The notion of epistemology will be discussed with reference to the construction of personal and professional knowledge. Practical ways of commencing and sustaining dialogue will be discussed in order to help teacher(s ) / student teachers to think globally of the theory and to act locally in the specific classroom situations. The establishment of trust between the supervisor and the teacher (or student-teacher), both at personal and professional levels is of fundamental importance. Appropriate feedback and peer discussion develops the professionalism of teacher educators and student-teachers. (148 words)
