This communication will report on a research that has been conducted between the years 1999-2001 with Province of Quebec school principals, in the context of the current school reform. The research attempts to understand the transformation of professional practice, school principals are in the process of achieving in the course of such an important systemic change. This research is important because it provides information as to which form of support school principals are most likely to need in order to carry on, at their school-level, the change process stimulated by the reform pedagogical orientations. Data will come from a questionnaire 450 school principals filled out as well as individual, semi-structured interviews with 70 of them. Special emphasis will be made on the images those facilitators of change, as they qualify themselves, carry with them when talking about the change process they are engaged into.
