Contribution

This study aims to study the role of the pedagogical press (produced by teachers) regarding the construction of their professional identity and at the same time to analyse some of their main demonstrations as far as teachers' representations are concerned, namely the draft of a teaching deontology or the appropriation of ideas and practices inherited from the New Education. The context is that of the Salazarist New State, with the difficulties it presents as regards the assertion of the teaching profession, by way of the political power's tight control over teachers. We shall use two sources - the journals Labor and Palestra. The key words are the following: identity, deontology, professionality and pedagogy.
