In this article we seek to stress the importance of research about teachers as strategic decision agents in the transformation of the school where they are the "key pointers". With ever faster changes in contemporary society, the challenges that teachers face are increasing. Society's expectations about the role of teachers also change. To begin, we lay out a theoretical setting of the subject "Teachers' Professional Satisfaction and their Social Representations". Next, using multiple correspondence techniques, we present and interpret the empirical results obtained from a study of the primary school teachers in the island of S. Miguel (in the Azores), stressing those pertaining to their representations about their profession and about school success. Finally, we discuss the implications and present some recommendations for teacher training.
