This paper will report on the first phase of a four year funded project in seven local education authorities in England and Wales which aims to identify what influences teachers working in a range of schools in different phases of their development lives. Whilst the longer term work will be with 300 teachers in 100 primary and secondary schools, this paper presents the project design and outcomes of a survey of 7500 teachers in 3000+ schools which seeks to identify responses to policy and organisational contexts, changing circumstances, professional development experiences, and school leadership.
