Classrooms all over the world seem to have at least one thing in common. There seems to be a preference for geometrical space as a point of reference when organising this kind of room. This is, however, not without consequences for the activities that are supposed to be done in this room, i.e. teaching and learning. The objective of this paper is to compare geometrical space with concretely lived space and to discuss their consequences for creating functional classrooms.
