Contribution
In this paper we discuss recent changes in teacher education in the light of broader social and cultural tendencies. We discuss different teacher educations in relation to academization, professional positions, and changing relations between the state, schooling, and the teaching professions. In relation to this we present some notions of education restructuring in relation to teachers´ work and professional identities. Finally, we present some guidelines when researching and comparing different teacher education systems, their preconditions and outcomes.
