Contribution
The values and ideas about good teaching and the Good Teacher are closely tied to dominating theories of teaching and learning. By the end of the 1990's most of the theories of teaching and learning had adopted a socio cultural perspective. Constructivist, humanistic and pragmatic perspectives all embraced the idea of teaching and learning as situated and contextual, and oriented their interest towards the educational settings and the ecology of educational situations. In my paper I discuss the political and moral consequences of these changes and problematize the role that is offered to the teacher within the conceptual frameworks of the socio cultural perspectives
