Contribution
In this presentation, key issues in writing, re-writing and developing a thesis proposal and writing a quality thesis are addressed, primarily from a qualitative perspective, while many of the concerns are identical within both research paradigms. In framing the presentation, issues about the qualities of theses and proposals are identified and discussed. This will be followed by a focus on ‘a clear statement of the problem’, literature review/ theoretical perspectives, research design and ethics, with some comment also on issues about time management and timelines. In addition, some key concerns about writing and the writing process are identified and opened up for further discussion as an important means of identifying ‘what works’ for individuals, building on the idiosyncrasy of the process. Finally, it is anticipated that the issues raised will provide time for, as well as provoke lively discussion and debate on these issues thus enabling participants to connect with and benefit from the presentation.
