Description: The topicality of the topic: New technologies enable the schools to prepare modern pupils for living in rapidly changing world, develop their skills of making the best use of informative resources of Internet; they also enable the schools to spread and implement new educational ideas. One of these ideas is Internet and the possibilities of its use in the process of education. The problem of the topic can be framed with following questions: 1) what main features of the use of Internet at schools could be noted? 2) what levels of use of Internet could be listed? 3) does Internet, as an educational environment, make positive influence to the educational process? 4) do Internet sites of schools reflect the peculiarities of the use of Internet in the educational process? The objective of the research - reflect the peculiarities of application of Internet as a technological environment at schools. The goals of the research:· To highlight the main features of expressing the paradigm of information technologies in education.· To analyze the conception of Internet as a technological environment and its main ideas. · To highlight the main features of the levels of use of Internet. · To mark out and find theoretical motivation for the characterization, criteria and indicators of the levels of use of Internet. · To study the levels of use of Internet at schools, analyzing the Internet sites of the gymnasiums. The object of the research - the use of Internet as a technological environment at school. The analysis of scientific literature showed: 1. The main feature of the paradigm of information technologies is technology helping quickly and effectively reach and spread information in computer networks, while getting and using information and using the knowledge becomes more and more difficult for the ones not connected to the network. The new pedagogy, based on constructivism, offers active methods and ways of teaching and learning - the students actively observe and explore the environment, using various educational information technologies.2. The educational research on the issue showed that Internet is a vital part of the information society, ensuring virtual communication of related groups and the spread of information. Internet created a brand new environment that did not exist before; it enables communication, collection and spread of information, where traditional methods of education may be performed in unconventional ways. It also created new social environment, hosting continual communication between the individuals. 3. Different skills of using Internet are necessary for implementing the educational goals; they can be characterized as the levels of use of Internet. The levels of use of Internet create the characteristics describing the capability of the school to use Internet during the educational process - highlighting the criteria and indicators of estimation of the use of Internet.
Methodology: The methodology of the research: implementing information technologies at comprehensive schools analyzed based on the stages of implementing IT, set by Juceviciene (2003), and the paradigm of information technologies, formulated by C.Perez, C. Freeman and G. Dos (quote M. Castells, 2005); the main features of the paradigm accent that technologies have a constant impact to the information, therefore becoming an important part of human activity, being a base for the system - network, connecting more and more users. Non-users experience major difficulties, especially making contacts. The methods of the research: Analysis of scientific literature; quantitative analysis of the matter. The scope of the research were Internet sites of 50 gymnasiums. The main procedure of collecting data for the research was making notes.
Conclusions: The conclusions of the research: after performing a research on the levels of use of Internet, it can be noted that the use of Internet in the educational process is quite fragmentary; there is a gap in the process of development of integration of Internet and in the educational network. The schools are not subject to use their computer basis and the competence of educators; thus, Internet becomes the expression of fashion and advertisement rather than additional means of education.
