Description: This study is aimed at observing how children can elaborate their knowledges during and after theater experiences on metacognitive horizon. Our inquiry is based on in-depth inteviews at privileged witnesses and observations during theater performances and during focus groups after same performances.
About performances, the University of Trento has worked with "Le Briciole" Teather in Parma, the most important theater dedicated at 4-7 years old in Italy, in particular following two pieces called Con la bambola in tasca e Il pinguino senza frac. (With doll on the pocket, The penguin without frac)
Methodology:
Our research approach is underpinned by synthetic induction of Grounded Theory (Glaser & Strauss, 1967; Strauss & Corbin, 1990), qualitative methods (Kvale, 1996) and naturalistic inquiry (Lincoln & Guba, 1985).
Conclusions: As far as in-depth interviews, we have intended to explore from actors' and directors' autobiographical narrations, in particular how children can participate at shows and in which ways the text can be transformed in theater text, adapted for children' perceptions. We have also inquired children' reconstruction of meanings of shows during individual reconstruction of histories through cards (that represent a single main history event each one).
