Session Information
Contribution
PhD students and young researchers in general may often see research and writing as two different and distinct activities. First comes the research – the gap in knowledge identified, the topic selected, the title agreed, the research questions specified, the methodology established, the research method designed, the literature reviewed, the fieldwork undertaken, the findings set out. Research provides the knowledge. Then comes the writing or, more specifically, the writing-up. Preferably this also offers a critique of the knowledge obtained and the way in which that knowledge was obtained. This presentation, instead, invites conference participants to see the writing process as inter-connected with the research process. Indeed writing may also be perceived as a form of research in itself especially where the critical reflection that good writing requires leads the author towards a transformation of both the knowledge discovered or constructed as well as the author him-/herself.
