Sweden has since 1975 used a compulsory education for newly appointed school leaders. The content of the educational programme and the ways in which the programme works will be described and the changes that the programme has undergone during the thirty years it has existed will be discussed on basis on the many evaluations that have been conducted of the school leader education programme in Sweden. The different strategies for giving schools and school leaders feed back on the achievement of the schools will be described. Among other things each school in Sweden yearly produce a quality review in which the school describes and discuss the results of its efforts to which local civil servants but also local politicians have to react. Hypothesis about the effects of the feed back system on school improvement processes will be developed and a plan for an investigation will be presented
