Topic : Ethnographical research Research question : it is a research about results of shooling offer in the western part of France (Brittany). This research was demanded by national administration, local authorities, and four cities. It spent 3 years, with 12 researchers and students from my laboratory, University of Rennes, in Brittany, Catalunya and Andalusia (Spain). It is an Action Research, with many interviews, and long time Fielwork. We met all the partners (Authorities, teachers, gipsies parents and children as well). Our purpose was to compare official schooling offer and the true expectation of Gipsies. The results show a deep difference between schooling providing (school attendance to gipsies children, in order to integration of this ethnic group through equability), and what Gipsies want (knowing how to read and write, in the mere purpose of better social coping). We could see that Gipsies do not accept this kind schooling offer, they call a cultural offence. We had a good sample of contested qualities of educational research. Since our results gave an inexpected landscape, some bosses from the Authorities said it was because qualitative research in not objective, nor serious at all. On the other hand, Gipsies told us it was the first time they were understood by "gadgé" (not Gipsy people). And they were able, after this research and because of the deep links created by fielwork, to present and to argue with better arguments their cultural demands.
