Symposium
Contribution
Over the last 20 years, the research group on Disability Studies and Inclusive Education at Ghent University (Belgium) has built a structural relationship with the parents’ movement (known as “Parents for Inclusion”). Together with these families and through the concrete work for their children, we have shifted from focusing on 'Pedagogies of special needs' to a focus on 'Pedagogies of desire' (Zembylas, 2007). Through the examination of three case studies coming out of this work, the paper illustrates how pedagogies of desire can mobilise creative , transgressive and pleasurable forces that help us come closer to 'becoming' as a state of mind and goal for frameworks of action. With this political choice we try to oppose normalising practices characterised through pre-fab solutions and long lists of 'buts'.
