This paper presents findings of an ongoing research which aims to investigate the phenomenon of family involvement in two universities in Cyprus (one state and one private). The study explores the understanding of the perspective of students regarding the phenomenon, as well as the perspectives of other actors involved, such as their family members, and the university faculty and administrative staff. The data set presented in this paper include online logs kept by administrative staff in the two universities (October 2013-July 2014). The members of staff were selected through a purposive sampling process among administrators and secretaries who deal with family-initiated communication in the two institutions. The preliminary descriptive thematic analysis of the data indicates that that administrative staff in both universities experience a considerable number of interactions -especially telephone calls- with parents/guardians or other family members about students’ academic matters. The data may also suggest that even though in the particular universities relationships with parents/guardians during their children’s post-school academic life appear to be distant, family involvement is increasingly spreading into the higher levels of education as many parents/guardians strive to contribute to and become involved in their children’s university experience.
