Lately the neccessity for instruction in class that appreciates diversity is becoming very popular in Austria’s educational politics and sciences. Mainly teachers are asked to change their way of instruction towards methods that accept and appreciate diversity in class and school. It is the aim to allow every single student to learn along his/her current zone of development instead of the ideas that every student of a class learns are following homogenous learning processes. This creates a contradictory situation, because the school system is keeping its selective idea as in which the expectations for all students are the same. While educational theory and the second main reference, beside the institutional context of school, to educational actions in school context expect a positive handling of diversity.
The main interest of the research presented in this paper is: How do teachers construct school and a professional habitus during a school development process that focuses instructional methods trying to appreciate diversity? On this base they construct the understanding of their own work and responsibilities as professionals in school.
Therefore focus group interviews with teachers that were done. The collected data shows, that there are different ways of constructing school and teachers professionalism along the idea of dealing with a diverse group of students.
