This paper presents a research that analyzes the School Experience as space for the construction of the social and cultural identity of its participants. The conditions of the School Community are essential issues in this process. The final aim of this analysis is the change of the school practices of the participants. This research is developed on three schools from Andalusia (Spain): an urban primary school, a secondary school and a rural school. Three Mexican schools are also investigated in a project coordinate with this one. From methodological point of view, the main objectives are: - To understand the school experience from the different educative actors (Teachers, families and students), by the analysis of identity construction process, in order to build an active and democratic school community model. - To work on the transformation of the participating schools by different collaborative reflection strategies about the research data gathered. - To go in depth in this kind of research methodological strategies as a mechanism to implicate and to commitment the subjects, and on the other hand, as a mechanism to connect the social and personal dimensions in school experience. In order to reach these objectives we are using a variety of strategies. Firstly, we carry out a qualitative process oriented to collect data: - Biographies and narratives of teachers, families and students. They are elaborated from in-depth interviews with participants - Ethnographies of the school and of the school context by standing in the school in different periods. - Administrative and legal frame of the school. We analyze laws and official regulations from political system. Secondly, we put these data under participants in order to interpret them collaborately and to search the improvement of the school. We manage procedures as: - “Reflexive Groups” for working collaboratively with research data, where different points of view of every sector participating in the educative process will be collected and discussed. - “Discussion Groups” in order to disseminate the results of the research and to transform the educative reality.

Method

This research is carrying out by narrative strategies and collaborative procedures. In particular we are managing the next one: - Biographical interviews with parents, Students and Teachers. - Ethnographies of the school and of the school context - Document Analysis. - Reflexive Groups (parents, students and Teachers) - Discussion Groups (participants and external agents)

Expected Outcomes

- To understand the school experience from the different educative actors (Teachers, families, students, ..), - To value the identity construction process, in order to integrated it in an active and democratic community model. - To transform the school practices and the performance of different subjects from democratic perspective. - To go deep in this kind of research methodological strategies as a mechanism to implicate and to commitment the subjects, and on the other hand, as a mechanism to connect the social and personal dimensions.
