Paper Session continues from 11 SES 04 A
Contribution
This article presents the results from a poll applied to the pupils of the last course of the Primary Education and first course of Secondary Education of public, private and state-subsidised schools of Alicante and its province (Spain).
We have done some research on the perception of coexistence through the behavioural factors shown by the pupils than can have a negative impact on school coexistence. Among these factors, we shall mention: inadequate learning atmosphere, alcohol addiction, narcotics, videogames, aggression, interruptions, impossibility to explain, quitting school, emotional issues, discrimination among students, dependence, insecurity, social exclusion, vandalism, delays, robbery, xenophobia and school failure.
The topic of social coexistence is very recurrent from different educational, political and social issues. A total of 574 pupils have taken this poll, 254 of them are from Primary Education and 319 from Secondary Education. School coexistence a progressively consolidated field of study, especially from the analytical-descriptive perspective, which describes the processes involved in human interaction that need improvement so as to favour school contexts with more adequate teaching and learning processes, minimizing risks related to the formerly mentioned negative aspects.
From the Faculty of Education of the University of Alicante, through the General Didactics and Specific Didactics department, and from the Education Theory and History, we have made some research on the coexistence and school violence. There is a web page devoted to this topic, where the data from polls of pupils and teachers are reflected. At the same time, we have noticed how important it is to implement values in schools, through subjects or as a transversal topic, or through the Tutorial Action Plan, so as to prevent and tackle unwanted situations in coexistence at school.
