Contribution
A research project was conducted in 2014 at the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools (NIS) School in Semey, Kazakhstan. The purpose of the research was to find out what is working and what needs to be modified with respect to team teaching in maths lessons. The concept of team teaching is unique in Kazakhstan, as it is only found in the NIS. As such, it can only have its impact in schools within the NIS network, which currently has 16 schools throughout the country. Through written and oral questioning of 51 upper secondary school students, with the use of both multiple choice and free response questions, the survey sought to question both local students and 10 faculty members, from both local and international staff, to obtain their opinion about the quality of team teaching of math education in the campus. The results of the surveys showed that there was support for the idea of teaching math lessons in English. Opinions were evenly divided over whether the presence of international teacher’s aided the improvement of math skills. The study concluded that all teachers must be flexible and remember the long-term need of all students when conducting all lesson planning teaching activities.
