Session Information
WERA SES 09 D, ‘Looking Globally at the Publication Process: What Works?’
Workshop
Contribution
For many graduate students and new scholars across the globe, the process of writing for publication may feel unduly mysterious, highly complex, and quite risky. For that reason, the goal of this session is to offer international participants practical and transferable advice about how to progress from viable research questions to well-crafted manuscript. In addition, guidance in (a) selecting suitable national and international publication outlets, (b) navigating the basics of the peer-review process, and (c) planning next steps and studies will be offered. By deconstructing scholarly publication in this way, the presenter seeks to ensure that members of the world research community still new to academic writing see this process as more transparent and conceptually simpler, and perceive themselves as capable researchers and authors. The session is also orchestrated to allow time for participants’ questions and for discussion of topics or issues of personal relevance.
